Golden beaches and Lobé Falls
The golden beaches of Kribi, surrounded by coconut palms, are among the most beautiful in Cameroon. The town, located on both the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Kienké River, has a picturesque harbour with a fish market where fish auction and fish restaurants lie side by side. The town was founded by the Germans in colonial times, whose church at the port and the old lighthouse are silent witnesses. Kribi is also a popular weekend and holiday destination for residents of Douala and Yaoundé. Just south of Kribi are the Lobé Falls. A fairly spectacular sight, especially in the rainy season, as the sweet river water of thirty meters height plunges over huge rocks. A headland prevents it from mixing directly with the salty seawater. In the bay that is created it is wonderful swimming. On the beach, overlooking the falls, you can enjoy a delicious meal with freshly prepared fish and crayfish. If you want to see the waterfalls up close and down, you can book a trip in a hollowed-out tree trunk. Just down the road you can embark on a boat trip on the Lobé River and visit the Pygmy. Although they still live in the jungle, they are alienated from their original culture because of their contacts with tourists.
