Lemurs and Chameleons

Madagascar is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of nature. Due to the isolated location of the island, you will find seven of the eight species of baobabs (trees) on Earth, ninety percent of all lemurs or lemurs (prosimians) and half of all chameleons. Ten thousand plant species also grow here, including a thousand different orchids. Three quarters of that flora grows nowhere else. All that beauty is protected in 31 nature reserves and 16 national parks. Important are the parks of Bemaraha and Ankarana , known for the black and millions of years old limestone peaks or 'tsingy' which are a World Heritage Site. Elongated 'rock cathedrals' can also be found in the Parc National d'Isalo with its impressive gorges. No fewer than sixty families of the most striking lemur live in the Parc National d'Andasibe-Mantadia: the Indri-Indri. The Ylang Ylang or flower of flowers grows on the 'perfume island' Nosy B e. You read it already, Madagascar is home to a natural wealth that cannot be matched...
