Muang La Lodge

Unexpected comfort in a corner of the north

In 2008, the Nam Pak River   Muang La Lodge was opened in the far north of Laos. A lodge in the mountains that is run with reflection, where untouched jungle, thermal baths, an unprecedented cuisine and an introduction to the ethnic minorities of the region are on the program.

The guest houses are located in beautiful gardens, in traditionally built villas. Built with local wood, the walls white, the parquet floors polished and decorated with hand-restored furniture from the 1930s. The décor consists of original works by Laotian artists. The natural fabrics applied are a tribute to the colourful culture of Laos.

Tips & tops from Muang La Lodge:

  • The ten spacious rooms with high ceilings are equipped with all the comforts and invite you to relax. The views are formidable and the peace is complete. No television, internet or phone here.
  • The restaurant offers unparalleled views of the river, but you can also choose to use your meal on your own terrace, in the shady garden or in La Sala, a wooden pavilion on the private island that is accessible via a wooden suspension bridge.
  • The Laotian dishes are prepared exclusively with ingredients from the region, vegetables, fruits and herbs even from their own soil. Also your fish, chicken and duck are raised at the lodge...
  • Indulge in the gastronomic Laotian heritage and take a chef's cooking class.
  • The infinity pool, in a secluded spot on the island, surrounded by trees and thick vegetation.
  • The public hot water bath - fed by diversions through a centuries-old thermal spring at the base of the lodge - is frequently used by the villagers. Would it be beneficial?
  • In addition, there are two elevated private hot tubs overlooking the river and mountains, also filled with water from the thermal spring, and a Laotian steam sauna.
  • Manicures, pedicures and reflexology are complementary to the professional relaxing and vitalizing massages.
  • The activities in the area are numerous; visit the traditional village of Muang La,meet the 'people of heaven', theIkhos,Akha   andHmong, hike through the mountains and meet the Khamu, take a tour through the pristine jungle of Phouhipi National Park and a boat ride across the Nam Ou.
