Special city in Colombia
Cartagena is one of the most impressive cities in South America. In this port city, the Spanish collected the treasures from the newly conquered territories, which were then shipped to Spain once a year in the famous 'silver fleets'. The city was therefore a popular target of pirates and enemy armies and was therefore protected by impressive city walls and forts that still dominate the old city. The historic centre within the walls is one of the best preserved Spanish colonial centers of the continent. The narrow streets connect the many flowery squares and lead past the large mansions and palazzos that the Spanish elite had built. The bustling city is also the centre of Afro Caribbean culture and music that you can enjoy in the evening in the many music clubs. On the beaches of Bocagrande or the islets in the bay you can relax and enjoy the warm waters of the Caribbean sea.
