Hello Michal,
We had a wonderful trip:
- The Emakoko was very comfortable and the Nairobi National Park is really worthwhile now with the rhino as the main act especially.
- Sheldrick orphanage is really worthwhile: what a show
- In Saruni Samburu, we were given a full house (room 1) that was a bit remote from the rest; the three meals were brought to the house by 4WD. Samburu is still very unique; there is little wildlife in the Kalama Conservancy (Oryx among others and the magnificent reticulated giraffe) and so we drove to Samburu National Park every day for the herds of elephants; our guide Wilson was very professional and funny to discuss soccer (he a Liverpool fan, I of Arsenal) and the red devils; Saruni is in the process of installing air conditioning (the compressor was hanging on the wall but there is not enough power; first they have to install more solar panels). This lodge is not for people afraid of heights: the trip by Land Rover to the lodge is impressive (once the radiator gave up the ghost with an explosive bang);
- Serian's Kimaya Kimaya was the absolute best as you had pointed out: a beautiful location on the Mara river (very interesting to see the wildlife hesitating to cross the river) , a top chef with a very varied cuisine (Indian curries among others), the best safari experience of the trip both for the scenery and the wildlife (one kill, night safari was sublime with a hyena family with 4 cubs that crawled under the car and put on a funny show for 30 minutes)
- Angama is a beautiful lodge, great for relaxing with a view of Kilimanjaro. They do keep a bizarre daily schedule with breakfast after the morning drive (so around 10h30, followed by lunch at 13h). The chef is also clearly not as good as the one in Kimaya Kimaya; our guide was a little less than the previous one with a very tiring first day (pickup in Amboseli with a packed lunch in the car (?) , a search for TeeJay, the supertusker who had just lost his buddy Craig and then a long drive to the lodge: we were absolutely cassé after also three stopovers on all kinds of airstrips!
- The last day was one not soon to forget: private flight to Wilson and then a wonderful dinner at the Karen Blixen cottages. It brought back very many memories of the past, especially with the setting in the garden, lots of Kenyan guests and absolutely delicious Indian cuisine!
