Just unusual in Dubai
Whoever thinks of Dubai already has the towering skyscrapers in mind. Feels the refreshing air con of the five star hotels. Strolls through a large shopping center in a newly purchased designer outfit. But Dubai is more. More than the Burj Khalifa of 828 meters high. More than the Burj al Arab, the only 7-star hotel in the world. More than The Dubai Mall, the shopping center the size of fifty football fields. In less than forty years Dubai has made the metamorphosis from a small trading center to a huge metropolis. Yet, wandering through Dubai, visitors are sometimes suddenly back in this dusty town of yesteryear.
If you want more old and authentic, just follow the coast. Less than an hour from Dubai are small villages and towns that look like Dubai half a century ago. The fact that time stands still here does not mean that life also stands still. There is plenty to do for visitors. On the famous Sheik Zayed Road, the tallest buildings in the world cry out for attention and admiration. If you look around these buildings, you will see another city. Less noisy and intrusive, but definitely worth admiring. The narrow streets with traditional Arab souks. The smell of tobacco, coming from the shishas that are everywhere on the table. Moreover, there is another world outside the city. On the tropical islands off the coast, you will find yourself far from all the hustle and bustle. Rest and relaxation, that's what it's all about here.
Looking for action? Then hop in the back of the 4WD for a dune bashing ride in the desert. It will certainly be sand bites. The fact that you can also put on your skis on the ski slope on the same day makes Dubai the city it is: here the unusual is ordinary.
