Beach holiday Mauritius

For many people, Mauritius is synonymous with idyllic beaches, crystal-clear blue water, and swaying palm trees. It’s an ideal destination for a honeymoon or beach vacation. But there’s more to the island than that! Mauritius, named by the Dutch in the 17th century after Stadtholder Prince Maurits, is a volcanic island. It is home to over seven hundred native plant species. You can admire them in the Pamplemousse Botanical Garden and in nature parks, of which the Gorges de la Rivière Noire is the best known. The parks are part of the government’s and private sector’s sustainable tourism policy. You’ll also find monkeys, the saker falcon—the island’s symbol—and red deer. The Dutch introduced these animals to the island, just as they did sugarcane. Culture lovers will also find plenty to enjoy, with museums, Hindu temples, Creole manor houses from the colonial era, and the remains of the Dutch Fort Frederik Hendrik. The pearly white and golden-yellow beaches, the azure-blue and always warm seawater, and the many coral reefs make Mauritius a paradise for sunbathers, snorkelers, (deep-sea) divers, and water sports enthusiasts.
