History and Authentic Balkan Charm

Ook het charmante Veliko Tarnovo, de voormalige hoofdstad van het Bulgaarse rijk, behoort tot de mooiste historische bestemmingen van het land.
Mountains, National Parks, and the Black Sea Coast
For nature lovers, Bulgaria offers a surprising variety of landscapes. Hike through the spectacular mountain ranges of the Rila, Pirin, and Balkan Mountains, discover crystal-clear mountain lakes and vast forests, or spot rare animals in the national parks. The iconic Buzludzha Monument—a gigantic flying saucer—stands in striking contrast to the surrounding mountain landscape. Although the monument is now abandoned and no longer open to visitors, it remains a fascinating place due to its remote location, panoramic views of the Balkan Mountains, and mysterious atmosphere. In the summer, the Black Sea coast beckons with wide sandy beaches, picturesque fishing villages, and lively seaside resorts such as Nessebar, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
