Ten thousand plant species also grow here, including a thousand different orchids. Three quarters of that flora grows nowhere else. All that beauty is protected in 31 nature reserves and 16 national parks. Important are the parks of Bemaraha and Ankarana , known for the black and millions of years old limestone peaks or 'tsingy' which are a World Heritage Site. No fewer than sixty families of the most striking lemur live in the Parc National d'Andasibe-Mantadia: the Indri-Indri. The Ylang Ylang or flower of flowers grows on the 'perfume island' Nosy B e.
