Mauritius Botanical Gardens
The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, officially known as the Royal Botanic Gardens or Sir Seewooragur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, covers an area of greenery Mauritius of about 24 hectares and is located about 11 km from Port Louis. As you walk along the beautiful trails, you’ll pass various ponds and terraces. Pamplemousses is best known for its magnificent giant water lilies, Victoria amazonica, which can support a weight of over 45 kg! In addition to the giant water lilies, the garden also features spices, ebony, sugarcane, and 85 species of palms from Central America, Asia, Africa, and the islands of the Indian Ocean. Many of the trees were planted by world leaders and royalty, including Princess Margaret, Indira Gandhi, and François Mitterrand.
