Hiking in Morocco

The Atlas Mountains

The Atlas Mountains are a paradise for (mountain) hikers.
Here you will find the Toubkal (4167m) - the highest mountain in North Africa - and the M'Goun (4,068 meters) in the High Atlas.
Following the Anti-Atlas is the Djebel Saghro, whose highest point is Amalou n'Mansour (2,712m).
The Siroua massif marks the transition between the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas.

Toubkal

During the many marked hiking trails in the Toubkal Massif, you will pass traditional Berber villages such as Imlil, a mud village that seems to climb up the mountainside. The beautiful landscape is very varied, from enchanting valleys and gorges to mountain ridges. During the walks you can rest in the many mountain villages and while drinking tea you can look out over the multicolored rock formations. You walk at an altitude of about 1,500 to 2,000 meters, but if you want you can also climb the Toubkal itself. Check out Hiking Trip High Atlas for an active trip including climbing Toubkal.

M'goun

The M'goun massif is located in the eastern part of the High Atlas.
The famous valley of the Dadès is located in this area, but beyond that, relatively few visitors come here.
There are atmospheric kasbahs where you can spend the night and from where you can take quiet or challenging day hikes.
The region also lends itself perfectly to continuous trekking, where you will be accompanied by a guide and mules to carry your luggage.
Depending on the route, a cook will also accompany you, or you will enjoy the hospitality of the local people, the Berbers.

Djebel Saghro

Djebel Saghro (2772 m) is a low mountain range located between the High Atlas and the Sahara. Formed by thousands of years of erosion, it offers a fantastic array of landscapes: lunar-like plateaus, striking rock formations - such as Bab n'Ali, Tassigdelt and Taggourt - and deep gorges that you will explore step by step. There are not many villages here, but you can meet the Aït Atta Berbers with their black Bedouin tents and herds of sheep, goats and dromedaries. Sheltered by the mountains of the High Atlas, Saghro has a mild climate, making it a very good hiking destination for winter and spring and fall.
