Group tour of the history of North Sudan
The journey starts in Khartoum, the capital where the Blue Nile and the White Nile meet. The trip starts with a short city tour. After visiting the archaeological museum you drive to the Western Desert. Next, visit several temples, including the Temple of Sesibi and Temple of Soleb, magnificent temples full of hieroglyphics built under Egyptian rule.
You will travel through Nubia, a region in southern Egypt and northern Sudan, also called the gateway to Africa. This area marks the transition from the Arab to the African world. Both cultures come together here, which makes for a fascinating society. The archaeological sites you visit here are Kerma with the Deffufa and a beautiful museum, and Tombos with the statue of Thutmose. You will also pass Old Dongola and the palatial el Kurru cemetery.
Then follows a drive through the Bayuda Desert, past black mountains of basalt interspersed with yellow and white sandy plains and dry wadis. Here the nomads of the Bisharin tribe live in settlements of small, branch-built huts, the custodians of the salt lake in the Atrun crater. At the end of the ride, some forty pyramids appear on the horizon, the Necropolis of Meroë. Then you have another visit to the beautiful sites of Mussarawath and Naga. You end your trip with a visit to the souk of Omdurman and attending a Derwish ceremony, which always takes place on Friday.
