The ancient grape from the south
Areni is a small village in southern Armenia, not far from the border of Azerbaijan, and is best known for wine production. During archaeological excavations in nearby caves, a more than 6,000-year-old winery was found. This was proof that wine has been produced in this region for centuries. The Areni grape is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. In addition to dry and red wine, rosé from the ancient grape is also produced. The Hin Areni winery grows its vines not far from these ancient caves and is well worth a visit.
