Wildlife on Sir Bani Yas
A curious gazelle sniffs the vases on the porch of the Desert Island Lodge. And a few paw prints in the sand betray her visit in the morning. Not only gazelles, but also the rare Arabian oryx runs freely over Sir Bani Yas,the largest natural island in the United Arab Emirates. A fence has been placed around the habitat of giraffes, hyenas and cheetahs, but with more than 2,400 hectares they still have a spacious shelter.
Yet the gazelles enjoy the most freedom, for them fences or barbed wire, the waves limit their territory. Not yours, by the way. Because with a cruise or in a kayak, the muddled mangrove forests around the island are best to discover. And also the animals that are not at your front door, dolphins and sea turtles, can be admired here.
