Mobile tent camp in the Wahiba Sands
All signs point to the left. But you turn right. Because Bedouin do not follow signs, but navigate on feeling. Also, they do not sleep in the city, but have a bed in the desert. With an overnight stay in a handmade tent by Hudhud, you will get to know both the landscape and the Bedouin existence in Oman.
The double tents are as spacious as the area in which they are set up. But unlike the desert, they are furnished and equipped with real mattresses. Shower and toilet are located in separate tent. In the Wahiba Sands, the sand dunes are home to Bedouin communities. No electric lighting here, but campfires, candles and oil lamps. Even if these with thousands of shining stars in the sky are almost superfluous.
Where exactly under this starry sky you sleep, you can choose. No big tent camps, but a private place in the sand. Once found, you don't have to fight with pegs and tent sail. Pop in the colorful cushions next to the large silver tray with a steaming pot of tea. While sand and the sun merge in the distance, the traditional Bedouin tents are set up. So that after a long day in the desert, you will not only be covered by a fine layer of sand, but also by a soft blanket.
It's not just the desert where travelers can settle. As a Bedouin, you're free. So also overnight stays in the Al Hajar mountains or on the beach are among the possibilities. The environment is different. The stars are shining everywhere.
Tips & Tops from Hudhud mobile:
- The tent can accommodate two people. An additional field bed can possibly be set up for children
- Fully equipped, Hudhud guides like to take their guests to Wadi's in the desert for a refreshing dip. They also know the best places to picnic in the mountains and know the way to the construction site of the Dhow's (traditional fishing boats) on the coast
- Luxury camping: showering with hot water is possible. Next to each tent there is a private 'bathroom tent'
- Action in the desert: quad biking, sandboarding or a camel ride
- All nights are individually tailored. One night in the desert is possible. But if you like to sleep under the stars for several nights, an eight-day expedition to from North to South might be an idea
- Enjoy a meal at a beautifully set table under a blanket of stars
- In the desert around the Wahiba Sands, camel races take place regularly
