Dear Joseph,
We are back in Lome !
Thanks again for arranging a beautiful, inspiring trip.
On the outward journey to the north towards Burkina Faso we have Sokode visited with a nice fire dance that the whole village came out for and also took pictures with their cell phones. Not an everyday fare for them either. But there was so much more. The voodoo market in Lome. The beautiful hotel Le Patio , visiting the chieftain of the Ewe, the monastery, the local cafes that advertise the joint watching of the Spanish football competition (with an entrance fee!). No 3G, so looking for WiFi to work occasionally. The beautiful visit to the Unesco World Heritage in the north with the castle-like houses (similar to Burkina Faso), but also the private 'zoo' of the previous president with two zebras, two turtles, three ostriches, two moose, etc. A kind of 'Noah's Ark' on a large scale. And a locally brewed beer from the gourd, drunk together with Linda without spilling beer (according to the custom there). Delicious lunch in Le Douceur in Kara (the government hotel, on the other hand, has run away from the GDR, comparable to the hotel at Bale Mountains in Ethiopia). Kpalimé with great hotel and Chez Fanny , possibly the best restaurant in Togo . On the back of the motorbike to the German castle on top of the mountain. Of course without a helmet, as all passengers in Togo ride a motorcycle without a helmet.
A good network of drivers and guides who are in constant contact with each other makes these beautiful African countries easy to travel.
Linda and Nick
