A lush green valley
Lubango is the capital of Huila province and is located in a tropical, green valley. The city is protected by a large statue of Christ on the surrounding hills, a plateau called Humpata. The Christ statue is a replica of the one near Rio de Janeiro. In Lubango you will find many colonial buildings, pleasant bars and restaurants as a legacy of the Portuguese period. Visit the spectacular gorge Tunda Vala or the statue of Christ where you will enjoy breathtaking views of the city.
Lubango is also the ideal base for visiting the diverse tribes of southwestern Angola. In the vicinity of Lubango live the Muila, Handa and Khoisan. Further south around Oncocua you will be welcomed by the Himba, Hakaona, Cubal and Tua. Where the world can't find you...
