Cape Verde's main island
Sal is the main island of the Cape Verde Islands. It is the only island that has an international airport. The island has beautiful beaches, with an 8 km long white sandy beach as a draw. Sal is flat and has little vegetation. In addition to tourism as a source of income, the island is home to fishing and salt mines. The salt mines of Pedra de Lume can be visited during an excursion. Also worth visiting is the natural pool, Buracona; a cave bathed in bright blue light. A beautiful location for diving.
Sal is the most touristy island of Cape Verde, especially the area around Santa Maria is entirely equipped for tourists. Extend your Cape Verde tour with a few days of beach holiday on Sal to let all impressions work on you.
