The most African island
Santiago is the largest island in the Cape Verde archipelago. The island is also the most African island, with an African population whose wives carry their children with colourful cloths on their bodies. During the trips across the island, you'll travel through varied landscapes, from barren rugged mountains to green fertile slopes with banana plantations. Enjoy the beautiful beaches that the north of this island has to offer. At Tarrafal there are picturesque beaches with coconut palms.
The island is well worth a visit. The modern capital Praia is a lively city, with many colourful markets with tropical fruits and vegetables. The former capital Cidade Velha offers plenty of culture, beautiful old buildings and relics from colonial times.
