A hiking paradise
The spectacular landscapes of Santo Antão should see every nature lover! Rugged peaks, deep valleys, mountain slopes with centuries-old hiking trails, banana plantations, pastel-coloured cottages stuck against the mountain. A visit to Santo Antão is a trip from highlight to highlight.
The island is volcanic, fertile and very green in the north. Ribeira Grande, located in the north, is the main city of Santo Antão. The city consists of pastel-coloured colonial buildings and narrow streets. From this town there are taxi vans all over the island. The roads are breathtakingly beautiful. They swing up along crater walls, over ridges, through banana plantations and along steep cliffs. You can get in and out of anywhere and make the most beautiful walks on the island. A must is coastal walk at Ponta do Sol. Steep mountain walls go perpendicular to the ocean!
