Dzanga Sangha Reserve

Forest elephants and lowland gorillas

The Dzanga Sangha Reserve (approximately 4,000 km²) is located in the tropical rainforest in the south west of the Central African Republic. You will find the larger mammals such as forest elephants, the western lowland gorilla, forest buffaloes, and bongos (forest antelopes). The reserve is part of a larger protected area stretching from Congo – Brazzaville to Cameroon. From a platform on the edge of a bai (clearing in the forest) you can observe elephants and experience the many aspects of their social behavior up close. Another reason to visit Dzanga Sangha is an introduction to the traditional pygmy population. In the rainforest you can take beautiful walks and learn about the medicinal powers of the rich flora.
