Crocodile mummies and sugarcane fields
The ancient city of Kom Ombo, located north of Aswan, on the east bank of the Nile River in Egypt. It is famous for its unusual double temple on the river in honor of Horus the Elder (Haroeris) and Sobek (the crocodile god) and its accompanying crocodile museum. The temple is distinguished mainly by its double, mirrored structures and even has a double altar. At the Crocodile Museum, you can view crocodile mummies and other artifacts that provide insight into the sacred place the animals held in ancient times.
Kom Ombo is also home to an original community of farmers and a large population of Nubians, and it is surrounded by beautiful sugarcane fields. This beautiful city is a fantastic day trip from both Luxor and Aswan and is a popular stop on river cruises.
