Aswan

Charismatic and relaxed

Aswan is a modern and popular city with a relaxed atmosphere, located on the banks of the Nile. It houses a number of important Egyptian sites. Visit the colorful and lively market and the Nubian Museum where some of the most important artifacts of southern Egypt are on display. Cruise to a small island between the Highdam and the old dam and discover the lovely temple Philae, dedicated to Isis, the goddess of love and music. The main reason for staying in Aswan is to visit Abu Simbel, located about three and a half hours away on the shores of Lake Nasser in the UNESCO World Heritage Valley known as "the Nubian Monuments. Abu Simbel consists of two large temples hidden in the desert and, unlike most temples, are not built with stones but cut directly from the rock face. The left temple was built in honor of Ramses II and the right temple in honor of his wife Nefertari and Hathor, the mother god. Back in Aswan, take a long walk along the wide coastal road provided with spectacular views and finish with a dinner of fresh seafood at one of the city's charming floating restaurants.
