Mvuu Lodge is a small intimate lodge, stunningly located on the shore of a lagoon just off the Shire River on the western border of Liwonde National Park. This lush nature reserve of swamps, open savannah, forests and mountains is home to a great diversity of fauna and flora. Mvuu means "hippos" in the local Tonga language.
Eight luxury en-suite safari tents are discreetly hidden in thick riparian vegetation. From the wooden terrace you can watch, with or without binoculars, bathing elephants, passing game and colorful birds. On boat safaris, guided morning nature walks or afternoon game drives you will look for large herds of elephants, masses of hippos, huge crocodiles, many species of antelope, lions and leopards. This area is a great destination for bird lovers, especially along the river many bird species are observed. Take a bicycle to a local village and meet the inhabitants, a fascinating cultural experience.
