Mvuu Lodge

Luxury 'hippos' lodge intertwined with surrounding nature

Mvuu Lodge is a small intimate lodge, stunningly located on the banks of a lagoon just off the Shire River on the western boundary of Liwonde National Park. This lush nature reserve of marshes, open savannah, forests and mountains is home to a great diversity of fauna and flora. Mvuu means "hippos" in the local Tonga language.

Eight luxury en-suite safari tents are discreetly tucked away in thick banks. From the wooden terrace you can see, with or without binoculars, bathing elephants, passing game and colorful birds. During boat safaris, guided morning walks in nature or afternoon game drives, you'll look for large herds of elephants, masses of hippos, huge crocodiles, many species of antelopes, lions and leopards. This area is a great destination for bird lovers, especially along the river many bird species are observed. Take the bike to a local village and meet the residents, a fascinating cultural experience.

Mvuu Lodge offers just the right combination of safari and relaxation during your Malawi safari.   An idyllic place to admire the red sinking sun, sipping on a G&T.
