Traditional villages, high mountains and deep valleys
The Atlas Mountains run through Northern Africa, from west to east through Morocco , Algeria and Tunisia. The mountain range in Morocco is divided into several parts - the High Atlas, Middle Atlas and Anti-Atlas - surrounded by various foothills and mountain massifs.
Almond trees, walnuts and saffron grow in the valleys; water sometimes flows.
Villages seem to stick to the mountainside, the houses have the color of the surrounding rock.
Thanks to a microclimate, a place can be surprisingly pleasant, even in the cold winters.
At high altitudes it can freeze then, there is even some snow.
Lovely, raw and pure alternate, but the Atlas Mountains are always impressively beautiful.
Some parts are easily accessible by road, but the real untamed adventure lies far from that road, in villages and valleys accessible only by mule tracks.
There, old traditions live on, life has a different rhythm. Where the world can't find you ...
Toubkal and M'goun
The High Atlas, with its highest point Toubkal (4,165m), is a major attraction. Mount Toubkal is also the highest mountain in Northern Africa. Another highlight is the peak M'Goun (4,068 metres), which is very different in landscape from the area around the Toubkal. Pleasant in summer, icy cold in winter.
From a mountaintop you will have insanely beautiful views of sharp rocky ridges, eroded volcanoes, stone plains and in some places even sand dunes.
SO different from the lower coastal regions of Morocco, and SO worth exploring the higher parts of the Atlas as well.
