City of the terra cotta army

Xi’an

Terra cotta warriors

Xi'an was once the final station of the world-famous Silk Road and home to dynasties, traders, soldiers and monks. In the meantime, the city is best known for the accidentally discovered archaeological treasure. For more than 2,000 years, the impressive collection of more than 9,000 unique terra cotta figures remained hidden underground, the pottery army created by Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi to protect him in the afterlife. Presumably the find is just the tip of the iceberg; just down the road is his - not yet released - burial mound with an underground palace full of precious treasures...

The historical pearl Xi'an is also rich in fascinating ancient traditions, charm and adventure. Cycling over the centuries-old city wall that surrounds the city centre, you have stunning views of the busy city centre. You look out over the Big and Little Goose Pagoda, the Drum Tower, the Bell Tower and the bustling Muslim quarter where it's teeming with food stalls. Try handmade noodles, a delicious dumpling banquet and   the traditionally prepared roujiamo, the local favourite that is said to make you strong and beautiful!. If you have the chance, give your eyes and ears a living during a beautiful Tang Show,   based on performances from the Tang Dynasty.
