Living in the desert
Almost out of nowhere, the fort of Jaisalmer looms in the Thar Desert. A huge sandcastle, distinguished only by its different contours from the sand dunes. Within the walls, the Indian color comes to life. Outside the city gates, the desert is in charge. Between some villages there seems to be nothing. No road. No sign. No arrow. But the Indian nomads know where left and where right. They like to take travelers, on a walking and camel tour of the desert.
The camel floaters also navigate flawlessly. During a multi-day camel tour you can travel long distances. Moreover, loneliness in this desert is an illusion. Antelopes, gazelles and desert foxes roam the plains. And every ten kilometres you pass a desert village. Here you can stay overnight. Those who choose a bed in the desert sleep under a blanket of stars. The nomads tell legends, while at a distance the eyes of desert foxes light up through the flames of the campfire.
