Turquoise mountain lake among green hills
At an altitude of 3,000 meters among the mountains of Kyrgyzstan lies the beautifully situated turquoise freshwater lake Soň-Köl. During the summer months, nomads flock to the lake with their felt yurts to herd their sheep and goats on the fresh grass, which is shared with the many herds of wild horses; festivals and horse races take place frequently during this period. The local community considers the lake sacred and several ancient burial mounds can be found there. Stay overnight in a traditional felt yurt and explore the impressive landscapes around Soň-Köl Lake, dotted with edelweiss in the summer months, on foot or on horseback. Meet the nomads and taste locally made koumis, the lightly alcoholic horse milk and the national drink of Kyrgyzstan.
