Tenth-century caravansarai
Hidden among the peaks of the Tian Shan Mountains in Kyrgyzstan, the caravanserai Tash Rabat lies in a beautiful valley. The 10th-century Nestorian monastery, for centuries the stopover for silk caravans from Kashgar seeking protection from robbers and blizzards, is the centerpiece of this beautiful green valley. In the summer months, Tash Rabat comes alive when local shepherds set up their traditional yurts and roam the fresh green hills in the area with their flocks of sheep, yaks, horses and the occasional camel. Stay overnight in a traditional felt yurt and take the most beautiful walks among the impressive landscapes of Tash-Rabat.
