Malé Maldives
The North Malé Atoll has a length of 67 km and a width of 41 km. You will find the international airport (on the island of Hulhule) and the capital Malé. Malé is the smallest capital in the world and the island is almost literally bursting at the seams because of the limited space. Malé is the place where you will find the sights that the archipelago has to offer. The most imposing building in Malé is the Great Friday Mosque, a huge mosque where some 5,000 Muslims can go. Other attractions include the Presidential Palace and the National Museum in Sultan Park. But Malé is more than just beautiful buildings. For example, there is a vegetable, fruit and wood market where residents of other islands come together to sell their wares. There is also a fish market where freshly caught fish is traded at the end of the afternoon. In Malé it is also fantastic shopping; both souvenirs and electronics are not expensive. From the North or South Malé atoll you can easily take a day trip to the capital.
