The character of Pokhara
Pokhara's character is absolutely fickle. Nepal's second city gives travelers an adrenaline rush one day by jumping into the deep from sarangkotviewpoint. The next day she lulps visitors to sleep on the serene waters of Lake Phewa. The fact is that there is a lot going on in Pokhara. Moreover, the city is an ideal base for anyone who longs for a soft bed after a day of rugged nature.
As the starting and finishing point of many treks through the Annapurna area, you will also find many walking shoes in the fancier restaurants. Not only hikers gather in Pokhara, but also those who prefer to admire the
Himalayas
from a different perspective. In clear weather, birds of prey float side by side with the paragliders above Lake Phewa.
Along a winding path, you'll walk to the World Peace Pagoda where an impressive view of Lake Phewa awaits you. In this idyllic lake, rowboats are ready. The slopes that rise on the banks reflect so sharply in the clear water that it looks as if you are rowing through the mountains. Back on the waterfront (Lake Side) are home to countless restaurants and bars, which fill up in the evening with travelers enjoying the soft sofas and extensive choice on the menu after their sometimes weeks-long trek.
Outside this tourist waterfront lies the city where residents who are far from all this Himalayan tourism live their daily lives. In the temples weddings take place with singing, dance and an orchestra playing the newly married couples. Young monks give believers a tikka, a colored dot on the forehead as a sign of blessing. Street vendors wear out their paper-wrapped snacks. Women approve rags of fabric for their sari. Cows trudg through the street in a friendly way.
