Ratwatte Walauwa

Old mansion transformed into boutique hotel

Ratwatte Walauwa is a beautifully restored 1804 country house with a lush tropical garden. It is surrounded by rice fields and tea plantations. From this boutique hotel you can be in Kandy in no time to visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. Just outside Kandy, the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens are well worth a visit. Bicycles are available to explore the green tea fields.

There are nine individually decorated rooms. Red Spot Duke or Indian Admiral, the rooms are named after the various butterflies found in Sri Lanka. Antique furniture and local materials were used for the decoration.

Tips & tops Ratwatte Walauwa:

  • With only nine rooms, Ratwatte Walauwa feels more like a home than a hotel
  • The four "ultra" rooms are extra spacious and have private terraces furnished with antique furniture
  • Ratwatte Walauwa has a large swimming pool among the hills and overlooking the rice fields
  • A masseur and a yoga instructor are available daily
  • Bicycles are available for all guests to explore the area
  • The botanical gardens can be reached within 40 minutes
  • The staff at Ratwatte Walauwa would love to challenge you to a game of cricket
  • The restaurant has "curry party" twice a week: there is then a choice of as many as ten traditional curries
