THE HISTORICAL CENTRE, THE HEART OF SRI LANKA
The cultural triangle is the historical centre of the island, the heart of Sri Lanka. The cultural triangle is formed by Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Kandy.
Here you will find impressive rock temples, stupas that are plant-clad or immaculately white, beautiful palaces and prestigious temples. A must-see during your luxury tour of Sri Lanka.
In Sigiriya lies a 200 m high rock in the middle of the jungle. This giant rock is also called the Lion Rock. During the climb you will pass a 'mirror wall', a lion plateau and see sensual murals. At the top you will see ruins of the royal palace and a great view of the entire area.
Dambulla is best known for its famous Dambullarot stamps. The complex consists of spectacular caves that are full of unique Buddha statues in different sizes and mudras. Dambulla also offers a lively market where many types of fruits and vegetables are sold to locals from all over the island.
A visit to the cultural triangle can be combined with a safari in Minneriya National Park, known for its gathering, a gathering of large groups of elephants in July and August.
