The richest underwater world in the Caribbean
Martinique 's underwater world is among the richest in the Caribbean, with a diverse marine ecosystem of coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves and volcanic formations. Its warm, clear waters and numerous dive spots around the island make it suitable for novice snorkelers and experienced divers alike.
Lava formed reefs, colorful coral gardens and historic shipwrecks
What makes Martinique special are its lava-filled reefs, colorful coral gardens and historic shipwrecks. In Saint-Pierre Bay lie wrecks of ships that fell prey to the eruption of Mont Pelée, while experienced divers discover steep walls, exciting caves and tropical fish around Diamond Rock. For snorkelers, the shallow inlets of the southwest coast are ideal. From the beach, snorkel in bays such as Anse d'Arlet, Anse Dufour and Cap Salomon among sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, barracudas, parrotfish and variegated coral fish.
