Region full of World Heritage
Despite being one of the smallest regions in the country, Northern Hungary is home to three World Heritage Sites. Famous wines, traditional life and geological natural beauty define the identity of this area.
Subterranean sculptures
Wonderful stalactite formations can be found in the imposing cave system of Aggtelek . The unusual ornaments of the caves in different shapes and colors are the result of the work of many millions of water drops.
Whitewashed half-timbered houses
The authentic village of Hollókő is well worth a visit. It is a fine example of a well-preserved traditional settlement in an environment of meadows and forests. The ruins of Hollókő Castle dominate the old village and the surrounding fields and orchards. The typical palóc houses with their verandas have whitewashed porches, wooden walls and characteristic gabled roofs.
Famous wines
One of the greatest treasures of the region are its delicious grapes and wines. Viticulture and the love of wine are inextricably linked to the life of the people here, with the tradition being passed on from father to son. The most famous wine is undoubtedly the aszú from Tokaj. But other varieties such as the widely acclaimed Hungarian red wine, Egri Bikavér or Bull's Blood have an excellent taste.
