Refuge for nature lovers
Deep green peaks, dense forests, mountain lakes and medicinal mineral springs characterize the Dilijan National Park, located in northern Armeniaon the mountain signs Pambak, Aregouni and Miapor. The mixed forests and mountain slopes are home to grouse, brown bears and lynx. The park, also known by the proud locals as armenia's Switzerland, is home to some of the country's best preserved medieval monasteries. Visit the Haghartsin Monastery, one of the largest and most remote monasteries where a priest still lives, and the lesser-known Goshavank monastery complex, with a total of three churches and nine buildings built between the 12th and 13th centuries.
Located among deep green wooded mountains you will also find the city of Dilijan. This city and its surroundings were an important spa in the last decades of the Soviet Union. Stroll down Sharambeyan Street, entirely in the style of the 19th century, and visit atmospheric shops with local Armenian products and authentic workshops where wood is hand-crafted.
