Tromsø: Gateway to the Arctic North

Tromsø, located more than 350 kilometers above the Arctic Circle, is considered the European gateway to the Arctic. Despite its northern and rugged location, Tromsø has a lively atmosphere with cozy cafes, restaurants, and many cultural events. The city is surrounded by fjords, mountains, and islands, making it an excellent base for nature lovers. Visitors can admire the iconic Arctic Cathedral, take the cable car to Storsteinen for panoramic views, and learn more about polar expeditions at the small but fantastic Polar Museum, among other things.

Winter in Tromsø and the Northern Lights

In winter, Tromsø becomes one of the best destinations in the world for seeing the Northern Lights . Between September and March, the dancing green and purple curtains of light are often visible in the sky. Thanks to its northern location and relatively favorable weather conditions, the chances of a successful sighting are high. In addition to the Northern Lights, winter offers plenty of other Arctic activities, such as husky sled rides, snowmobile tours, whale-watching safaris, and snowshoeing. During the polar night, the sun does not rise above the horizon for weeks, creating a unique atmosphere with a soft blue light over the snow-covered landscape.
