Great biodiversity
Madidi National Park is located in the amazon's upstream area in northern Bolivia near the border with Peru. The park covers an area of over 18000 km² and even together with the surrounding nature reserves, forms one of the largest protected areas in the world! Ranging from snow-covered peaks of the high Andes mountains to the tropical rainforest of the Tuichi River, the biological diversity of this park is enormous. In the park lives a unique species of Titi monkey that only occurs here. There are also more than 1000 species of birds and numerous fish species. The park counts 44% of all mammal species in North and South America, including the jaguar and 38% of all tropical amphibians.
Noel Kempff Mercado National Park
Noel Kempff Mercado National Park is located in northeastern Bolivia near the border with Brazil. It is named after Professor Noel Kempff Mercado in tribute to the efforts he made in the research in the park. It is over 15,000 km² in size and includes five major ecosystems including Amazon rainforest. Biodiversity is huge, a hold; 4000 species of vascular plants, more than 130 species of mammals, including river dolphins, the giant armadillo, the giant anteater, the jaguar and the black panther.
