Stunning bays and beaches along the Pacific Ocean
The Pacific Ocean coastline is sometimes fierce and rugged, as waves smash full of power on the rocks. Impressive natural wonders to never get enough of. Yet there are also idyllic beaches on a secluded bay, where the water calmly awaits snorkelers and swimmers and where it is lovely to relax on the fine sandy beach. The coast can be admired from hiking trails, there are ranches from which you can trek through nature on horseback. After a day in sun and wind, it is blissful to land at a fine resort where you can watch the sun disappear behind the bilge.
Emerald Coast, a surfer's paradise
The most beautiful beaches and the best spots for surfers can be found on the beautiful Emerald Coast or Costa Esmeralda, the southernmost part of the coast. Elongated beaches and rolling waves are irresistible to more experienced surfers, but beginners can also ride their first waves here. You will find them, among others, in San Juan del Sur, a fishing village that has maintained its unique culture and charm despite its growing popularity. Stroll the streets lined with colorful wooden houses and blow out in picturesque bays with traditional sailboats and huge fishing yachts. It is a wonderful place to spend a few days, to take a canopy tour or, of course, enjoy the beach. You can not only surf well there, but also fish, dive, snorkel and sail. On the nearby La Flor beach during the breeding season (August-December), you can witness how females laboriously crawl up the beach, only to dig a pit in which they lay their eggs.
