The home for the Bedouin
Desert as desert was once meant to be. Oman has plenty of sand. For example, in the Empty Quarter, the "empty corner" stretching across Oman, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Thousands of kilometers of sand, an area larger than the Netherlands, Belgium and France combined. Lovely dunes alternate with dangerous quicksand where even local Bedouins do not venture.
Sharqiyah Sands
You can meet them in the northern Sharqiyah Sands that is also known as Wahiba Sands. This desert area is still home to the Bedouin, even as this lifestyle is becoming rarer and rarer as they too move more and more to the city. Yet tradition is still honored here. With this hospitable people, you can stay overnight in Bedouin tents. Anyone who accidentally ends up at a camel race had better step aside. The camels confidently dash through the sand at 65 kilometers per hour.
