Tourist attraction Guatemala
Antigua is a major tourist attraction in Guatemala. The pleasant city has a well preserved historical centre with colonial palaces and their beautiful patios, old squares and numerous churches and monasteries most of which are still just ruins. The colonial city is located in the valley of Panchoy surrounded by three volcanoes, the Agua (3766m), Fuego (3763m) and Acatenango (3976m). It has a clear size and typical markets and is known for its many Spanish language schools. It is also known for the jade that is sold there. In the jade workshops, the semi-carved stone, which played an important role in the art of the Olmeken and the ancient Maya, is processed. Many trips start and end in Antigua, as it is such a pleasant city with beautiful accommodations.
