The highlight was of course the eclipse in Coyhaique on February 26, 2017, but before it got that far we enjoyed Patagonia. From the penguin island of Isla Santa Magdalena, the beautiful Serrano and Balmaceda glaciers and Torres del Paine where we stayed overnight at hotel Tierra Patagonia.
Hotel Tierra Patagonia
: absolutely 'the max'! There are not enough superlatives to describe this experience; everything here is pure class. The hotel, the rooms, the professionalism and customer friendliness of all the staff, the level and motivation of the guides, the food and drink (the house wine is from Lapostolle, the best winery we visited later in the trip). Here we want to go back to! As the icing on the cake, we were also very lucky with the weather. This was undoubtedly the highlight of the trip!
The weather gods remain favourable to us, because also on the eclipse day, in Coyhaique, we have a cloudless annular eclipse. And that in a place where it rains for 20 days in an average February month.
We wanted to combine the eclipse trip with a visit to the many wine estates of Chile 'Astronomy meets gastronomy'. Six different wine estates are on our to-do list:
Four of them in the
Colchuagua Valley
, the two last closer near Santiago, in the Maipo valley. Wine estate Lapostolle, in the Colchuagua valley, is undoubtedly the best wine estate we visited. Very good guide, very fascinating tour (harvest had just begun, and we could experience the manual processing of the picked grapes – is unique, because this only happens 1 week a year). Best tasting with top wines. Recommended!
Again, thanks for taking care of this unforgettable trip!
