Special tribes in Burkino
The Gurunsi, a population group, consists of a number of different ethnic groups living on the border of Ghana and Burkina Faso. The different groups have mainly social, economic and religious similarities, a common language is lacking. They still live very traditional, without water mains or electricity. Typical of the Gurunsi are the beautifully painted mud houses. It's the women who do this. They make beautiful figurative geometric motifs, in the colors red, black and white. The motives are not random; they often refer to the religious and spiritual background and offer protection to the inhabitants and their homes. Between the houses are narrow passageways. The straight, symmetrical architectural style and functional architecture have inspired several artists and architects, including the Swiss architect Le Corbusier.
