Special island in Lake Chad
Kofia, a special island, hidden deep behind papyrus fields in Lake Chad but still on Cameroonian territory. It is considered a kind of 'four-country point'. Fishermen from Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Niger live peacefully together and dry their wares on large shelves or smoke the fish over charcoal fires. After that, the tilapia and other fish species are packed in large burlap bags and sold on the market. The only village on the island, a collection of mud huts with thatched roofs, attracts many traders, among other things, cigarettes due to its strategic location. There is also a lively trade in goods that you would not expect in this corner
