The ruins of Gondar
The ruins of castles and churches recall the seventeenth century when it was the capital of the Abyssinian empire. Hundreds of people are baptized in the royal baths every year during the Timkat festival commemorating the baptism of Christ. The Debre Birhan Selassie Church is known for its beautiful perspectiveless murals.
Lalibela rock churches
In this town located at a height of about 3,000 meters in the northern highlands, King Lalibela had eleven churches chopped from granite rocks in the ground in the thirteenth century. Angels would have helped with that. According to tradition, the intention was to raise a second Jerusalem here. That would explain the presence of "the tomb of Abraham."
