Simien Mountain Lodge

Best lodge in the Simien Mountains

At the Simien Mountain Lodge you will stay on the roof of the world. The Simien Mountain Lodge is situated at an altitude of 3,260 metres, making it the highest lodge in Africa. The view over the Simien Mountains is therefore truly indescribable. When you stand on the rocks and feel the wind pass you know you are alive! The mountain range has a rich animal life: Gelada baboons, special bird species, the Walia Ibex, the Simien wolf and some leopards. The Gelada baboons regularly come to neighborhoods and you will find them during your walks through the area, when they will see you with great interest. Multi-day treks are organised on foot or horseback from the lodge. The Simien Mountains are also called Africa's Grand Canyon. She owes this name mainly to the spectacular views and the rocks that sometimes go down steeply for up to 1.5 kilometres.
The lodge has a number of Tukels (round huts with thatched roofs) and family quarters. Both are very comfortable and decorated with light colors. Because the nights here can be quite cold they have underfloor heating (solar energy!) and are completely insulated. The family rooms have a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and two additional beds in the lounge.
