Diving or snorkelling in Mozambique
The Portuguese discovered centuries ago that the greatest resources of Mozambique were under water. These were oysters full of pearls at the time, nowadays it is the hundreds of untouched coral reefs with tropical fish, seagrass beds and special neighbours such as the Indian manatee, tiger sharks and mantas. Merlijns and barracudas, every angler's dream, are an attraction in themselves. Just like the annual humpback whales.
Above water, Mozambique offers exotic islands such as that of the Bazaruto Archipelago off the coast of Vilanculos, with pearly white beaches, sand dunes, soda and freshwater lakes full of flamingos and crocodiles. The Quirimba Archipelago near Pemba, an ancient port city on one of the world's largest bays and deepest natural harbours, even features mangroves, savannahs and mountains. Here you will also find Saint Lazarus Bank - an atoll with the most beautiful diving location in the world.
The special underwater world is easy to admire by going snorkeling off the coast. The most lodges on the islands and on the coast organize diving excursions or snorkeling trips.
