Cape Town and Cape Winelands

Cape Town, at the foot table mountain

Centrally located in the Cape Cape Region is Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world located at the foot of Table Mountain. Modern and hip, a real world city with cosy terraces, beautiful shops and good restaurants. You can visit the beautifully restored Victoria Waterfront, a large tourist centre on Cape Town Harbour with many terraces, shops, souvenirs, restaurants and street music. From the terraces overlooking the harbour you can see sea lions bobbing around. From the Waterfront a ferry boat sails to Robben Island. During an excursion to this island you will get a view of the history and living conditions of the imprisoned political opponents of the apartheid regime. Nelson Mandela was the most famous prisoner who spent nearly 20 years in prison.

You can't miss the majestic Table Mountain. Cape Town is built around it, as it were. You can climb the table mountain or go up by cable car and take a walk around the plateau. On the plateau you have a chance to see baboons and cliff badgers. From the plateau you have a beautiful view over the city and the Indian and Atlantic oceans that meet at the Cape point.

In the centre of Cape Town, the high-quality markets and souvenir shops around Greenmarquet Square are always fun to watch. On the Longstreet you will find beautiful buildings in Victorian and Georgian style.   The beautiful city with pleasant accommodations is a good base for activities and excursions in the area. A visit to the Cape Peninsula is one of the recommendations. It belongs to the 'flora kingdoms' of the world with one of the highest concentrations of different types of plants per square meter. Almost always you will see baboons, ostriches and mountain goats. A walk at Cape Point gives you views of the meeting point of the two oceans and fantastic beaches adjacent to a rough coast. Simon's Town is the naval city of South Africa. Near Simonstown, a large colony of penguins is home to Boulders Beach. From Houtbaai you can take a boat trip to Seal Island.

The Cape Winelands

Less than an hour's drive from Cape Town are vast vineyards, which are well known throughout the world. South Africa has now become a significant wine country. Among the vineyards are picturesque places like Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.
Around these villages are several wine estates that are connected by wine routes. Most of the estates are housed in beautiful Cape Dutch buildings with an ancient history. The tasting of wines is possible at the many wineries that are open to the public.
