Kafue National Park
West of Lusaka is the Kafue National Park, with its 22,500 km2 one of the largest parks in Africa. It is also one of the most beautiful and remote parks in Africa and is seen as the park of the future. The Kafue River, a tributary of the Zambezi, gives the landscape its own character; riverine forests, open grassy plains, miombo forests and wetlands alternate. The dense river vegetation along the Lunga River attracts a great diversity of birds and the boat trips are a 'must' for bird lovers. The north of the park is dominated by a large swamp, fed by the Lufupa River, which becomes completely dry in the dry season. Here lie the Busanga Plains , a delta with a unique ecosystem, still untouched by human hands. This area, with expanses of grass as far as the eye can see, is known for the Kafue Lechwe, a common water antelope, and thousands of waterfowl.
Lochinvar NP
Located on the plain of Kafue you will find a true bird paradise in Lochinvar NP . This national park, consisting of a large wetland area with grassy plains, is probably home to the most bird species in the world. This is also the habitat of the rare Kafue Lechwe. During walking safaris and tours by mokoro you can enjoy a breathtaking spectacle when hundreds of birds fly away at the same time, spectacular and impressive!
