THE BEST OF AFRICA

This trip is an extraordinary journey through the African countries of Rwanda and Zimbabwe. First, go in search of the imposing mountain gorillas, then on safari in the national parks of Zimbabwe and then visit one of the seven wonders of the world: the Victoria Falls.

MOUNTAIN GORILLAS IN VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

Volcanoes National Park is named after six volcanoes of the Virunga mountain range that marks the border with Uganda and Congo. You will trek through tropical mountain rainforest over the flanks of these volcanoes. The treks are tough and sometimes long, but your encounter with the mountain gorillas more than makes up for all the effort. The magic that emanates from these peaceful great apes is indescribable. And this is just the beginning! The area is also home to another rare primate species: the "golden monkey. Stop for a moment and enjoy the fairy-like vegetation, including giant lobelias, hanging mosses and senecios.

ON SAFARI IN PURE WILDERNESS

Hwange and Matusadona are known for their large population of elephants. During the dry season, you will witness large concentrations of wildlife around the still rare waterholes. In Mana Pools the wildlife has become accustomed to people on foot, this makes it one of the best African national parks for walking safaris! Gonarezhou has no roads or trails. No fences. No bridges or airstrips. And no permanent lodges. The rugged landscape consists of rivers with rocky banks, mopane forests, vast plains, lagoons and swamps. Here you will find pure wilderness and will encounter few other visitors during your safaris.

TIPS & TOPS ROUNDTRIP RWANDA & ZIMBABWE:

  • A tour accompanied by guides and trackers, through the morning fog in search of gorillas. Spend time with them and witness their extraordinary lifestyle
  • Take a peaceful boat ride across Lake Kivu, where green hills, terraces of agricultural crops and remnants of tropical rainforest pass you by. Lake Kivu is the habitat of many bird species including pelicans, kingfishers and the crane, the symbol of Rwanda
  • Although Hwange National Park is easily accessible, the sheer size and dispersion of the lodges makes it very unlikely that you will encounter other park visitors during your safaris
  • Many activities are available at Victoria Falls; go rafting on the spectacular rapids, bungee jumping or take a flight by ultralight plane over the waterfall
  • You can extend your trip by flying on to Cape Town from Victoria Falls. Stay here e.g. at The Silo, Babylonstoren, Ellerman House & Villa, Cape Grace Hotel, One & Only, Grand Daddy or Villa Zest. The choice is yours!
